General
Assembly Gathering
All members
of the PA General Assembly were invited to attend an informal gathering
on October 24 in Harrisburg to learn about the charitable gaming industry
in PA and how it helps our communities.
Post Commander Joel Ellis and Past Post Commander Richard Getz were invited
to attend the reception showcasing Post 1463’s good deeds resulting
from Small Games of Chance in PA; our award winning Community Service
Books were on display.
Numerous PA representatives viewed our 2010-2011 Community Service Books
and were impressed with the amount of work and monetary donations from
just one year as well as our participation in various community events
and all our veterans programs. We were asked to give details about the
donations mentioned in the Community Service books. We pointed out the
cuts in donations due to restrictions of outdated small games of chance
laws established in 1988. We had a chance to speak to Rep. Sheryl Delozier,
who sponsored HB 169; Rep. Donna Oberlander stopped by to view our books
and congratulated us on our efforts and many achievements; Rep. Kurt
Masser from Northumberland County voiced his support for Small Games
of Chance. Representative Curt Schroder, majority committee chairman
of the House Gaming Oversight Committee, spent time discussing HB 169
and
SB 444 and expressed his optimism that SB 444 will be voted on within
the next two weeks. Rep. Michele Brooks and Rep. Todd Stevens, both members
of the Gaming Oversight Committee, spent a great deal of time in conversation
with us and viewing our Community Service Books.
