1463 Hosts Coatesville Veterans
Veterans from
Coatesville Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) recently
attended two events sponsored by VFW Post 1463 and its Ladies Auxiliary.
On June 5, a dozen veterans found their way to Waltonian Pines in Schaefferstown
for a day of fishing. Our visitors were quick to jump off the bus,
get their fishing gear and bait and head to the pond. They enjoyed
a few hours of catch and release and quiet time. A picnic lunch was
provided by the Ladies Auxiliary.
On Saturday, June 29th, a day of beautiful weather in the midst of a
week of rain, 22 veterans from Coatesville VAMC attended a picnic at
Manheim Township Community Park in Neffsville. This was the Ladies Auxiliary’s
second event at the park with our vets. They enjoyed coffee and doughnuts
while the events of the day were explained. A bocce (lawn bowling) tournament
was held with participants divided into teams. Ladies Auxiliary and social
members assisted in game playing and score keeping. The winners were
proud of their achievement and their bragging rights. The bocce sets
were donated by the Lancaster Bocce League. The bocce ball sets went
back to Coatesville with the vets for their use in the future. Winning
Bingo games were rewarded with a trip to the “Trash Bag of Dee-Lite”;
they all seemed to enjoy that. After a picnic buffet provided by the
ladies of the auxiliary, there was more bocce and bingo!
Thanks to all the VFW, ladies auxiliary and social members who volunteered
and donated in many ways to these events. If you purchased goodies at
our Bake Sale on June 16 and 17, thanks to you too, your donation helped
pay for the picnic.
Our vets appreciate events like these and always tell us that it’s
good to know people think of them with days like these. It’s the
least we can do. Join us next time and share in the good feeling you
get when you help a veteran.
